February Is Black History Month

  • In 1945- The 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, a mostly African American battalion of the Women’s Army Corps (WAC), with Major Charity Adams (the highest ranking female African American officer) selected to serve as the battalion leader, was sent to Britain, where they were met with warehouses full of packages and letters.
  • In 1989- Former Saint Louis Cardinals first baseman Bill White is named president of the National League. He is the first African American to head a major sports league
